Frequently asked questions

What makes an equation quadratic?

After simplification it has the form ax² + bx + c = 0 with a ≠ 0.

How does the discriminant describe the roots?

For real coefficients, b² − 4ac > 0 gives two distinct real roots; equality to zero gives equal real roots; a negative value gives no real roots.

Why are there no 2021–22 Term 1 questions here?

Quadratic Equations belonged to Term 2 in the official 2021–22 syllabus. It was not part of the December 2021 Term 1 MCQ paper. We do not relabel sample-paper questions as 2022 board MCQs.

Who wrote the solutions?

CBSE working is reproduced where supplied, with normalised mathematical typesetting. Where the marking scheme gives only an answer, Team TutorVertex provides the explanation. Each solution is labelled accordingly.

Key rules for this chapter
  • Standard form: ax² + bx + c = 0, a ≠ 0.
  • Quadratic formula: x = (−b ± √(b² − 4ac))/(2a).
  • Equal real roots: b² − 4ac = 0.
  • For roots α and β: α + β = −b/a and αβ = c/a.
