CBSE CLASS 10 · CHAPTER 13

Statistics: MCQs with Answers

Practise mean, median, mode, cumulative frequencies, class identification and empirical relationships through official CBSE MCQs.

Read the distribution first: a frequency is not always a cumulative frequency. Identify what the question asks, select the relevant class or formula, and check your answer before opening the solution.

Board papers: 2023–2026 · Official sample sessions: 2022–23 to 2026–27. Selected ordinary MCQs aligned with NCERT Chapter 13 and the applicable CBSE syllabus, with prerequisite practice labelled separately.

Common questions

How do I identify the median class?

Calculate n/2 and cumulative frequencies. Find the class containing that position. Do not use the greatest frequency for this task.

How do I identify the modal class?

Choose the class with the greatest ordinary frequency. Convert cumulative frequencies first when necessary.

What does cf mean in the median formula?

It is the cumulative frequency of all classes preceding the median class, excluding the median class itself.

Are class limits and class boundaries the same?

Not always. For integer classes 1–10 and 11–20, continuous boundaries are 0.5–10.5 and 10.5–20.5. Follow the exact quantity requested.

Is the mean–median–mode relationship always exact?

No. It is an empirical relationship used to estimate a measure for suitable distributions.

What is a class mark?

It is the mid-point of an interval: add its lower and upper limits, then divide by 2.

How this question bank is prepared

This selected bank contains 50 distinct ordinary MCQs across 51 verified selected appearances: 36 board appearances and 15 sample-paper appearances. Identical selected stems are merged, with choice-order notes where relevant. This is not a complete transcription or list of every repeated appearance.

Answers are checked against corresponding official marking schemes and calculated mathematically. All explanations are written by Team TutorVertex in NCERT style, with one calculation or reasoning step per paragraph. Empirical estimates are identified explicitly. No incorrect-choice explanations are included.

The selected questions include 21 source data tables, recreated as readable tables with their class intervals, frequencies, headings and units checked against PDF images. Seventeen calculation tables appear only inside solutions. Table orientation may be changed to improve mobile readability. No source graph or teaching diagram is included in this selected bank.

This selected bank emphasises class identification, interpretation and prerequisite skills; it is not a complete grouped-median or grouped-mode calculation course. Written and case-study calculation questions are kept separate and have not been given invented MCQ choices.

The current syllabus focuses on grouped-data mean, median and mode, including direct, assumed-mean and step-deviation methods. Individual-data items are prerequisite practice. Cumulative frequencies support median and modal-class work. Ogive construction and bimodal situations are not included. Assertion–Reason and written case-study questions are excluded; the available 2022 written board questions are not converted into invented MCQs.

The available official archives were screened with text extraction and OCR for low-text papers. Extraction and language limitations apply; only selected, verified appearances are counted. Two inclusive-class questions were excluded because their wording asks for lower limits while their keys use class boundaries. Minor grammatical editing preserves each question’s mathematical data and displayed choice order.
